The "Strangers In Our Town" 2x12" single stands as a compelling artifact of late-1980s alternative rock, capturing Spear Of Destiny at a pivotal crossroads of commercial ambition and raw post-punk identity. Extracted from their fourth album, Outland, the title track itself delivers a dark, prophetic vision of modern division and tribalism, fueled by Kirk Brandon’s uniquely dramatic, operatic vocal delivery. While the standard album cut suffered slightly from the over-production trends of 1987, this expansive double-vinyl package allows the song to truly breathe. The extended and alternative mixes strip away some of the era's glossy studio gimmicks, letting the twin guitars and driving basslines take center stage to create a much more visceral, club-friendly landscape.
For collectors and audiophiles, this specific 10 Records release (TENX 148) offers exceptional value by providing a deeper sonic exploration than the standard single release. The inclusion of the rare dub version of "Time Of Our Lives" showcases the band’s willingness to experiment with rhythm and spatial dynamics, bridging the gap between anthemic rock and goth-tinged new wave. Housed in a beautifully designed gatefold picture sleeve, this release transforms a standard promotional single into an immersive listening experience. It serves as a definitive document of Brandon's songwriting depth, making it an essential acquisition for anyone looking to experience the full, uncompromised power of Spear Of Destiny's mid-career discography.
