Black Sea was an American post-punk and goth rock band formed in New Jersey during the late 1980s. The group gained underground recognition with the release of their sole full-length studio album, An Early Fall, in 1990. Published through the independent label No. 6 Records and distributed internationally by Rough Trade, the album showcased a guitar-driven, atmospheric sound heavily influenced by iconic alternative acts like The Cure, The Church, and Joy Division. Despite generating critical praise and a dedicated cult following within the darkwave and alternative rock communities, the band dissolved shortly after the album's release, leaving behind a brief but highly regarded discography.
