Picked up from the November 1998 edition of Uncut
Magazine this 4AD sampler really covers the labels basics from the beginnings up
to its release in ’98 (yeah, 20 years ago). The obvious classics you might
think, but no, there are some little gems hidden within. Label stalwarts are
well represented here with Colourbox, Dead Can Dance, The Breeders, Pixies,
This Mortal Coil and Cocteau Twins all taking their places along with The
Birthday Party, Red House Painters, Throwing Muses, The Mojave 3 and Lush (the
others are still new to me). A something for everyone job lot on the front of a
magazine within easy reach of the passing 30 somethings who vaguely remembered
liking one or two of the bands while at University.
