Vicious Pink was a synthpop duo formed in Leeds, England in 1981, and it consisted of Brian Moss and Josephine Warden. They are remembered for three dance singles: "CCCan't You See", "Fetish", and "Take Me Now", produced by Tony Mansfield of New Musik fame. Vicious Pink were one of a few bands in the early 1980s that could be described as having a techno sound, and can be credited for coining the term for describing music on 27 March 1982, long before it was used by Detroit DJs in 1986. Vicious Pink were never a real legend, but they achieved a cult status thanks to a marvellous mix of "8:15 To Nowhere". They started as backing vocalists for Soft Cell but soon released two singles under their first guise, The Vicious Pink Phenomena. After getting a record deal, they changed their name and released their first and only album Vicious Pink in 1986. Their lone album was really a collection of singles and they only played one gig ever (1984 at the Ritz in NYC) but Vicious Pink holds a special place in many synth pop fans' hearts. "The Spaceship Is Over There" is a very funky and bubbly song, predating trip-hop by a number of years. I love Josie Warden's steaming hot and seductive, almost African like voice, it fits well with the luscious percussion. The only song I have some problems with is "Fetish"; I can't really see Josie as a dominatrix...Anyway, Vicious Pink made a few wonderful songs, too bad they did not add a few cool mixes of "8:15". I mean, "Great Balls Of Fire"??? Yikes!
