There’s always something extremely satisfying when you
download music from a band that you had never heard of before, only to be
pleasantly surprised at the noise that emits from your PC’s speakers. This is
one of those very same satisfying downloads. Hailing from the misty flatlands
of Holland (the Netherlands) Quite Simple (Riny Van Wijnen: Vocals / Kees Vos:
Guitars, Vocals / Jan Spuybroek: Drums, Percussion / Willy Eveleens: Bass,
Keyboards, Vocals) were a Post-punk / Goth band who managed to translate the
sound that fans of hook-driven Leeds bands such as March Violets and T’ Lorries
should love. The album Unknown Stranger was released in 1989, while the 7”
Victims was released in 1987. Straight down the middle male/female vocal
dynamics and big, shameless production. For a self-financed private pressing,
the production on the album is especially impressive and sometimes it sounds
like, if things had worked out differently, that it is only a major label signing
away from being Floodland II. Is that enough to sway you to click?
