Picked up from 100 Greatest Bootlegs
Siouxsie And The Banshees; De Nieuwe Kade, Tiel, Holland.
Date: July 7th 1981
basement67 notes:
Siouxsie And The Banshees released ‘Ju Ju’ their fourth
album on June 6, 1981, a record now bestowed with classic status - like their
other percussion heavy release, the 1978 debut ‘The Scream’.
The Ju Ju tour was the first and only time that I saw the
Banshees, I had been interested in the group since 1977, after hearing the
session they recorded for BBC Radio One, broadcast on the John Peel show.
Siouxsie & The Banshees were often described at that time, as the best
unsigned group in London and it would not be until 1978, that they were taken
on by Polydor records.
The European tour began on June 14th 1981 in Brussels,
and ran to the end of the summer before the group flew to North America for
dates throughout October and November.
This Dutch FM broadcast is an upgrade taken from a master
source and includes Happy House which had not been previously available. It
features seven live versions of tracks that appear on ‘Ju Ju’, only missing
‘Into The Light’ and ‘Monitor’ (the latter performed but not broadcast as were
‘Christine’ and ‘Red Light’). ‘But Not Them’ was a new track played live by the
Banshees in concert, it had been written by the ‘Creatures’ after the Ju Ju
sessions and the song would be eventually released on their Wild Things EP in
September 1981.
This is a superb recording; the clarity highlights the
extraordinary and unique guitar playing of John McGough. High-class audio
equipment has been used, it is hiss free and doesn’t sound compressed. Few
recordings of this quality circulate from the early eighties and although I may
be slightly biased having seen the band on this tour, this is my favourite
Banshees recording from this time (1980-81).

FLAC here for 90 days...

Hello, do you have it on mp3 that you could also post, please?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Jorge
An MP3 zip file would be great.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
jbinjapan
many thanks
ReplyDeleteMp3? Why do people prefer things in worsequality?? FLAC is fine!
ReplyDeleteFLAC is fine, sure!
ReplyDeleteSome peope have shi#€y internet though...
Flac is no different to MP3. SOrry to burst that bubble. And some folk prefer MP3. Choice is essential in a fre democracy.
ReplyDeleteFlac is very different than MP3...far higher quality.
DeleteI’m currently on holiday in Egypt guys. I’ll post an MP3 rip of the original FLAC file when I get back.
DeleteJust out of interest, how many people here have conversion software on their PC’s or MAC’s? A small, free, download that allows you to convert music, that you may have been illegally downloading, into MP3 or other file types that your music players can play?
I up using the FLAC file system because it is LOSSLESS compression. It is then your choice how you go about playing the music. You can convert the files back into Wave (.wav) or CD quality as it’s also known, or in the case of 24-96, DVD quality. Also if you’re only interested in saving the file for personal playback via a computer or mobile device then you can convert the FLAC file down to MP3 at various bit rates. I try to post MP3 files in 320kbps which are the highest quality MP3.
I find it difficult to understand how people can be tech savvy enough to download music but they struggle with simple software conversion programs.
Ooh yes!
DeleteLooking forward to this - thanks for posting. Great memories of seeing Siouxsie in several iterations of the band.
Regarding MP3/lossless Flac etc: I playback using MP3 on my Mac and use xACT to convert any Flac files to MP3.
xACT is a simple routine to go through, pretty fool-proof, I'd say. Google it peeps, and install.
Thanks a lot!

I also saw this tour, but during the North American portion of it. My only complaint was that it was too damned loud.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is the file dimensions....
ReplyDeleteI download FLac only for THE VERY GOOD STUFF... Then I convert via windows bat file...for me the Only sensible lossy codec today is OPUS.
You can male a hybrid library of lossyflac
ReplyDeleteGiles, using 4-500 kbps and leaving correction
Giles on ext hard drive... No nerd for 2 libraries: lossy + lossless... Infinite scenario and uses.... Is yr The Better?
If I nave 5 GB month download.... I preferito mp3!
My ears are unable to tell the difference in sound quality, thought I don't doubt that there is a difference to those who can hear it. I usually convert FLAC files into 320 for portability. AJ, thank you for sharing this lovely set from my favorite era in the Banshees history. John McGeoch was truly brilliant.
ReplyDeleteRE UP Please...
ReplyDeletewell never mind the flac/320 - this cover art is giving me the horn..
ReplyDeleteDude!! 😂
DeleteSuper Cool
ReplyDeleteCheers Katweasel
